PACIFIER V-4,
4
Cylinder, 4 cycle, 2004
5/11/2004
The Pacifier V-4 is a 4 cylinder, 90 degree gas engine
with 5/8" bore. It has my latest carburetor, the Minimix and my Hall
Effect distributor. The ignition coil is the Exciter coil that I
designed for Mike Neal and is available from him. The Pacifier has been
cranked and ran, it idles and sounds well. it has a roller clutch and
water pump. Water circulates around the cast iron cylinder liners. The
crankshaft and camshaft are supported by ball bearings. The crankshaft
has oil seals.
The Pacifier is a nice engine to exhibit as the outside
appearance looks great, the block is short and one can see the rockers and
push rods working. It uses 10W30 oil and the fuel is regular gasoline with 10
% WD-40.
Ken Hurst and the BAEM club will attempt to make the castings
and drawings (3/4" bore) available to all builders, any profit will go to the
BAEM club.
The Pacifier is not very difficult to build for someone with
some engine building experience.

THE ENGINE IS THE
PACIFIER V-4 THAT I AM DESIGNING/BUILDING, IT IS
RUNNING AND I AM PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON IT. I HOPE TO
RE-PATTERN, CAST AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE AS A 3/4" BORE. A WORK IN
PROGRESS.

FIRST POP FOR THE PACIFIER WAS
YESTERDAY. THE HALL EFFECT DISTRIBUTOR AND THE MINIMIX CARBURETOR PERFORMED
PERFECTLY. I NOW HAVE 1.5 MINUTES OF RUNNING TIME ON IT. NO RADIATOR, WATER
PUMP, EXHAUST PIPES, MOUNTS BUT IT RUNS.

THE CARBURETOR IS THE
MINIMIX, DESIGNED FOR 5/8" TO 3/4" BORE ENGINES.
13 GENERATIONS OF DESIGN CHANGES TO GET IT SMALL ENOUGH SO AS NOT TO
OVERWHELM A SMALL ENGINE. IT IS EASY TO BUILD AND HAS ONLY 5 PARTS,
INCLUDING THE THROTTLE LEAVER. A MEASURED DRAWING IS FREE TO BUILDERS IF
THEY PAY THE POSTAGE.
THE DISTRIBUTOR IS A HALL
EFFECT DISTRIBUTOR FOR UP TO EIGHT CYLINDER ENGINES, THE ALUMINUM BODY IS 1"
OD. A UNIQUE DESIGN THAT PERFORMS WELL AT HIGH SPEED. A MEASURED DRAWING IS
FREE TO BUILDERS THAT PAY THE POSTAGE.
5/2005 Dirk
Tollenaar has put together a set of castings for this engine.
